Daniel Day Lewis learnt how to drape, cut and sew for the role! ✂️ We're going behind the scenes in issue 49 to hear how the picture came together, how they created the fabulous 50s fashions used in the film and the meaning behind that title!

dhurata_davies: It’s how I decided to create #balance

It’s how I decided to create for this evening - some brilliant with a bit of thrown in. The by is so far truly gripping, can’t wait to read more! My just-finished crocheted on the other hand was the result of me tidying my yarn collection a couple of days ago and deciding to use some of it to make a bag for my ongoing projects! It was quite addictive I have to say... there may be more to come in different colours!!!

I finished my ‘rescue’ sweater 😀 I picked up from where left off as i couldn’t stand to let it go to waist. She’d finished the back and started the front but had had enough of it so brought it to our monthly Chichester Sewing group where I was persuaded to take over. Not what I’d have chosen but I’m really glad I did persevere with it as I actually really like it and will be wearing it a lot. It’s crazy warm and snuggly! The yarn is Erica Knight chunky from and so was the pattern it started from (the rest was made up by me)

My felt bird ornaments came out to play yesterday! In fact they come out every year for a long while now, way before my instagram days! This is a pattern from and it must have been free at some point many moons ago as I really don’t remember buying it, although if I did it would have been totally worth it - I truly love them!

...still catching up with 5. Origin story - I am Albanian from Kosovo and grew up among women and men who knew how to make anything and everything from nothing. My mum told me this summer that I apparently learned to knit when I was about 3 years old and to sew soon after. Needless to say that I don’t remember this and it somehow seems that I have always known how to. My doll was the most fashionable one there ever was posing in my couture creations 😂 Unfortunately not much from that time survived the war of 1999 but the photo is of a piece of handwoven cloth from Kosovo. Traditionally bedsheets were made from it. I’ve had it for years and never know what to do with it.

Oh, I need to catch up on a few posts in one photo I’m afraid... 3. Happy accident??? Can’t think of any, honestly, sorry! 4. Machines are all up there on this pic. The cheap, secondhand, europro overlocker has been incredible for the last 11 or 12 years and given me no reason to want another; the singer confidence I’ve had for about 10 years and it’s been perfectly ok, just not enough somehow, so earlier this year I was given the juki for my 40th birthday (thank you husband) and I love the stitch quality on it; the vintage singer was £10 from a local charity shop and in perfect working order. My 7 year old son loves using it while keeping me company in my sewing quarters (he once made a gun holster with it 🙄) machine

I hope a knitted item is not against the rules of - I did sew the sides together... I made this tiny cardigan for my first baby. I think I remember every single stitch. I didn’t use a pattern, of course, just made it up. My big belly was a perfect surface to lay it on and check for size 😂

day 1. Hi, my name is Dhurata and I find waking up in the morning very difficult these days (mainly because I sew till late at night!)... so I took a photo this morning and had every intention of posting it just as soon as I’d finished breakfast, had a shower, got dressed, got my son’s PE bag ready, made sure he had breakfast, dropped him at school, got some milk on the way home, made breakfast for my other son (still on half term holiday), listened to his dream... - that post just never happened as by then it was time for me to go to work!!! I looked a lot more awake by then you’d be glad to hear 😂 - a second photo to prove it. Otherwise, I design, sew, knit, crochet, etc. and have done for as long as I remember. Shopping for clothes is an extremely rare occasion for me these days. I also work part-time and design the
