Todayโ€™s Power Block Workout โ€œChesticular Fortitudeโ€ The NASM training methodology has a foundational training methodology known as Block Periodization. The premise is to move through Stabilization, Strength, and Power 4-Week Training Blocks. This methodology is incredibly dynamic and fluid, in the Stabilizer Block one must consistently strive to develop strength and stabilizer endurance in key muscles and hard tissue surrounding joints such as the ankles, knees, hips, shoulders, elbows, etc. Upon laying a stable foundation one can then transition into the 4-Week strength block and begin to develop added size, hypertrophy, and strength, as this will be translated and utilized in sports specific movements, which brings us to the 4-Week Power Block. After building a strong and sturdy foundation, itโ€™s time to start launching and propelling objects forcefully, hurdling, jumping, pushing people, throwing a football or baseball, exploding off the line, dominating in hockey along the boards, or taking someone to the hole in basketball. This methodology is far more advantageous than the ego lifter who continually strength trains for size and aesthetics, as unconsciously they are impairing athletic performance by inhibiting joint mobility and impairing the bodies ability to efficiently travel through space. The only variable that changes between each of these snapshots in time is the amount of weight in each hand... No Weight, 5lbs, 10lbs, 15lbs, 20lbs Total additional Weight No Weight, 10lbs, 20lbs, 30lbs, 40lbs I post my content to document progress and also to help alleviate racial stigmas. Growing up I went to school with and grew up around several privileged lazy racist white kids whom rather than read, learn, and grow there athletic ability succumbed to there peers basic educational conditioning that came from uneducated adults and parents. The truth is out, social media and the information age should break down racial barriers. Peak athletic performance can be achieved by all, its sad and unfortunate most do not surround themselves with the right peers, read the correct books, or study the right materials. For sake of simplicity, lets have a brief lesson on Force Production. If I weigh 210 lbs and hurdle hop over a 30โ€ box with no weight in my hands and lets say I reach or achieve a peak height of 35โ€, what is the difference, ceteris peribus whilst holding 20lb dumbbells in each hand or 40lbs? So, 250lbs achieving 35โ€ peak versus 210lbs achieving 35โ€ peak. Now why would I perform this with weight? Well, I am conditioning my fast twitch fibers to exert maximal force so that when I generate force with my own body weight my limbs travel more explosively through space. Day of week, time of day really does not matter. Results....period. Exclamation!
